Class level descriptions

Level 1

  • Entering and exiting the water from stairs

  • Blowing bubbles for 3 seconds

  • Fully submerging head 3 times

  • Back float with support

  • Front float with support

  • Kicking on front with support

  • Kicking on back with support

Level 2

  • Back float with ears in the water for 5 seconds
  • Front float/jellyfish float for 5 seconds
  • Introduction to arm motions on front
  • Kicking on front, length of therapy pool
  • Kicking on back, length of therapy pool
  • Front glides with support
  • Back glides with support
  • Retrieve objects from the bottom of the pool
  • Monkey, airplane, soldier (elementary backstroke), with support

Level 3

  • Roll from front to back
  • Roll from back to front
  • Combine arm and leg actions on front with support
  • Introduction to backstroke arms
  • Introduction to side breathing
  • Front glides with kicks
  • Back glides with kicks
  • Elementary backstroke without support

Level 4

  • Combine leg and arm actions on front length of therapy pool with side breathing
  • Combine leg and arm actions on back with support
  • Introduction to treading water in chest-deep water

Level 5

  • Combine arm and leg action on back, length of therapy pool
  • Treading water - 30 seconds
  • Introduction to breaststroke kick
  • Combine arm and leg actions on front, length of lap pool with side breathing
  • Monkey, airplane, soldier, length of therapy pool

Level 6

  • Combine arm and leg actions on back, length of lap pool
  • Combine arm and leg action on front for 50 yards with side breathing
  • Introduction to breaststroke arms and timing
  • Treading water - 1 minute
  • Introduction to flip turns
  • Introduction to open turns

Level 7

  • Breaststroke - arms, timing, and coordination
  • Introduction to dolphin kick
  • Treading water - 3 minutes
  • 50 yards freestyle with flip turns
  • 50 yards backstroke with flip turns
  • 25 yards elementary backstroke

Level 8

  • 50 yards breaststroke with open turns
  • 100 yards freestyle with flip turns
  • 100 yards backstroke with flip turns
  • 50 yards elementary backstroke
  • Treading water - 5 minutes
  • Butterfly, arms, timing, and coordination
